I've made some decent progress on the back-end code for my game. Finally got the sockets to work and have the data properly sent through to all clients.
Now, when users go to the my Amazon web server's URL, they'll be assigned an ID, which comes with a specific assigned character as well. There's 12 characters that I've designed so far. The game mechanics are still being worked out, but I'm playing with the idea of some form of collaborative and exploratory gameplay. I'd also like each of the characters to have unique abilities.
The next step is to figure out what the game mechanics will be so I can program them and start testing and iterating. I also need to decide what kind of game world, or universe, will encompass the game, so I can start designing this world (don't want a boring white background, do we?). Additionally, I want to change the input to move the character from mouse to keypresses, so the arrow keys or WASD are used to control the character's movement.
Here's a screenshot of all the characters loaded in the browser:
Here's a short video of the interaction so far:
Still working out some kinks (there seems to be a bug that is emitting the wrong ID to all users after a certain number of users connect) but almost there!
